Project Brief
Games 4 Good are looking to support Stepping Stone Charitable Trust in their mission to transform the lives of 140 children across two rural schools in India by providing essential digital learning tools. These schools are located in deeply impoverished, tribal areas where families struggle to meet even their basic needs. This initiative aims to uplift these marginalised communities by breaking the cycle of poverty through access to quality education, modern teaching methods, and better resources.
Location: India
Funds Needed: $2,100
The Need
Stepping Stone Charitable Trust currently supports two schools. The first is a play school in Serango, operating in a rented building with 20 children and two teachers. The second is Grace Public School in Samudra Buduni, located about 105 km away from Serango, with 120 students and 10 teachers. Both schools serve communities made up mostly of tribal groups and other disadvantaged groups. These areas suffer from extreme poverty and low literacy rates, and have seen little benefit from national development programs.
Children from these communities often face significant barriers to education. Families, many of whom survive on subsistence farming, struggle to afford even minimal school fees. While Grace Public School offers free and subsidised education, the school still lacks crucial resources like computers and proper classroom space. Limited by a shortage of classrooms, the school runs in shifts, with students attending at different times throughout the day. Without adequate tools, these children have fewer opportunities to break the cycle of poverty.
The Solution
Stepping Stone Charitable Trust has identified a critical need for digital educational equipment to improve the learning environment for these children. The plan includes providing a smart TV, educational software (like Khan Academy), and reliable broadband internet access. These tools will significantly enhance the educational experience, helping students grasp concepts more easily through audio-visual aids and interactive learning.
By incorporating modern teaching tools, both students and teachers will benefit. Teachers will be able to deliver lessons more effectively, improving their own training and professional development in the process. The project also includes a 10% salary increase for teachers and the principal to retain skilled educators who are vital to the children’s development. Reliable internet access will further empower teachers and students to use online resources, expanding their learning opportunities.
The Opportunity
For just $2,100, we can provide the support needed to transform a classroom for an entire academic year, directly benefiting both students and staff. This modest investment will ensure that these under-resourced schools have the tools to offer a high-quality education.
Investing in this Digital Education Initiative will not only improve the learning experience but also give children a pathway out of poverty. By empowering students through education, we are opening doors for them to become professionals—such as doctors or engineers—who can uplift their families and contribute to their communities’ growth.
Together, we can help these marginalised tribal communities access the benefits of technology, paving the way for a brighter future for the next generation through the power of education.
