Project Brief
In partnership with New Hope Leprosy Trust India, Games 4 Good is on a mission to see people across 485 villages cured from cataract caused blindness. The percentage of people in India needing treatment is 4%, and in the area of New Hope’s work, the need is 6%. The power of gaming can help alleviate this need.
Location: India
Funds Needed: $3,100
The Need
Elderly individuals often serve as caregivers for children, enabling men to hunt and women to gather food. However, when vision is compromised, their ability to fulfill these vital roles is severely impaired, rendering them a burden to their families and communities. Those with even mild cataracts face heightened risks of injury while navigating their surroundings. Additionally, the social stigma associated with their inability to contribute can lead to reduced access to food and support. Tragically, these individuals often lack the resources and access to healthcare services that could alleviate their suffering, leaving them vulnerable and marginalised.
The Solution
New hope has performed thousands of surgeries over its 15 year operation in their Community Centre in Muniguda. Each year, they aim to perform 900 surgeries, helping many to have sight restored. Through their dedicated Centre, they aim to prevent blindness by offering cataract operations to people who otherwise could not access the surgery.

The Opportunity
New Hope have access and expertise to be able to perform around 900 surgeries in a year. For $3,100, we can provide the resources to enable them to perform 100 surgeries for residents of the Muniguda and Ambadola local areas. As well as the profound health impact of restoring vision, there is a social, emotional and economic recovery as the patient is empowered to regain their position in the family. Each patient will receive surgery, food, accommodation and stay in hospital for recovery.
