Feminine Hygiene Education and Supplies For A School of Girls

Stepping Stone Charitable Society supports underprivileged communities in Mumbai through health and education programmes. As part of this, they provide education support and sanitary pads to girls in the schools they work with. The aim is to improve health, reduce stigma, and help girls attend school regularly during their periods.

The Need

Many girls from low-income families cannot afford sanitary pads. As a result, some miss school during their period, while others use unsafe alternatives. This can lead to poor hygiene, risk of infection, embarrassment, low confidence, and continued myths and stigma around menstruation. There is a clear need to provide both proper education and access to safe sanitary products.

The Solution

The project will run menstrual health awareness sessions within the school to educate girls about hygiene and address common myths and taboos. It will also provide quality sanitary pads to 120 girls for 6 months and teach safe and proper disposal methods. By providing both knowledge and products, the programme will create immediate relief as well as long-term positive change in behaviour and confidence.

The Opportunity

Supporting menstrual health helps girls stay in school and participate confidently in their education. This project will improve attendance, support better health, increase confidence, and reduce stigma within the school environment. Because the model is simple and affordable, it can be easily repeated in other schools, allowing the impact to grow over time. $1161 will provide 6 month worth of support for a school of 120 girls.
